The news I would like to introduce this time is that local governments are collecting lithium-ion batteries.

The reason they are being collected is because there have been fires caused by lithium-ion batteries in waste disposal facilities and garbage collection trucks. According to the Ministry of the Environment, there were 8,543 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries in 2023, nearly double the number from the previous year and the highest number ever. The damage caused by fires caused by lithium-ion batteries is said to have amounted to at least 10 billion yen in fiscal 2021.
Lithium-ion batteries are used in many things around us, such as mobile batteries, smartphones, and video games. The cause of the fires is believed to be that in many cases the garbage gets mixed in with other garbage and ignites when it is subjected to a strong impact. Therefore, when we throw things away, we need to consider things like sorting them and using up all the batteries. Some local governments have set up collection boxes, so I would like to do what I can, such as separating lithium-ion batteries.
